Press Release
Thursday, April 2, 2020City provides free rides on fixed route buses for all riders
Effective immediately, and continuing until further notice, the City of Turlock has suspended the collection of fares on-board all Turlock Transit fixed route buses and provide free rides to all members of the public. This change allows passengers to board and exit through the middle door on larger buses, reducing the potential risk of transmission of COVID-19 between passengers and the bus driver.Passengers that need to use the deployable access ramp or need additional assistance will continue to be able to board and exit using the front door.
Transit services continue to be provided to the public as one of sixteen identified critical infrastructure sectors. In an effort to make your trip safer, passengers are encouraged to follow the guidance of public health officials to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, including: staying home if sick, sneezing or coughing into your elbow, washing your hands regularly, and practicing social distancing between yourself and individuals that do not live with you. Turlock Transit will continue to do its part by practicing social distancing when possible, regularly cleaning and sanitizing buses and transit facilities, and communicating regularly with the public through flyers, website updates, and social media postings.
The loss of fare revenue from this fare suspension will be offset through alternate transit funding sources, including additional federal funding the City is expected to receive through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
