SRWA Board Acts to Save Ratepayers a Million Dollars Annually

(Turlock, CA) - The Stanislaus Regional Water Authority (SRWA) Board of Directors voted to save ratepayers nearly a million dollars per year. At the August 18, 2022, SRWA Board Meeting, Reagan Wilson, City Manager for the City of Turlock presented the board with an alternative staffing plan for the SRWA Water Treatment Plant located within Stanislaus County. The plan reflected a significant annual savings over the existing structure, and was proposed to the full board this morning. Today, Mr. Reagan's proposal was presented to the board, and the formal contract will return for the vote in October.

"I made a commitment to the ratepayers in Turlock to decrease the burden of high water bills," said Mayor Bublak, chair of SRWA. "This vote today represents the strength of two cities, Turlock and Ceres, coming together to protect and advocate for their ratepayers. We believe everyone should have access to affordable and reliable water service, especially during challenging economic times. I thank my colleagues on the SRWA Board of Directors and appreciate the work done by Turlock's City Manager to not only reduce costs but increase organizational efficiencies."

The City of Turlock's proposal achieves these historic cost-savings by using Turlock's existing shared services to provide better control, oversight and as a result, efficiencies and accountability.

SRWA is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA), which includes the California Cities of Ceres and Turlock. Currently, the cities rely on groundwater as their only source of drinking water supply. The State of California has identified the Turlock Groundwater Subbasin as a high priority basin under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. The City of Turlock is represented by Mayor Bublak and the Vice Mayor of Turlock, Pam Franco.
