Fire Explorer Program

The Turlock Fire Department Fire Explorer Program is designed as a career awareness vehicle for young adults who are interested in a career in the Fire Service.

Explorers will cover numerous topics as it relates to the Fire Service such as:
  • Fire Behavior
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ropes and Knots
  • Hand Tools and Equipment
  • Hose Drills
  • Ladders
  • CPR/First Aid
These topics, in addition to numerous other topics, will prepare a solid foundation for the Explorer as he/she enters the Fire Service. Trainings will be conducted twice a month; in addition one Saturday training will be held quarterly. Fire Explorers will be required to maintain an attendance of 80% to ALL training meetings as well as Fire Explorer functions.

Ride-Alongs

Once the Explorer has completed a six month probationary period and is in good standings, he/she will be able to participate in ride-alongs. Ride-alongs allow the Explorer to gain "real life experience" by riding on a fire engine for a 12 hour shift.
