Fire Explorer Program
The Turlock Fire Department Fire Explorer Program is designed as a career awareness vehicle for young adults who are interested in a career in the Fire Service.
Explorers will cover numerous topics as it relates to the Fire Service such as:
- Fire Behavior
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Ropes and Knots
- Hand Tools and Equipment
- Hose Drills
- Ladders
- CPR/First Aid
Ride-Alongs
Once the Explorer has completed a six month probationary period and is in good standings, he/she will be able to participate in ride-alongs. Ride-alongs allow the Explorer to gain "real life experience" by riding on a fire engine for a 12 hour shift.Requirements for Post Entry:
- Age: Must be a minimum of 15 years of age at the time of Post entry. Member must vacate Post by his/her 21st birthday.
- Academic Standings: Must maintain a 2.00 GPA ("C" average) or better in all school work.
- Physical Requirements: Must be in good health. Weight must be proportionate to height.
- Residence: No current residency requirement. However, residents of Turlock will have first priority.
- No Felony Convictions: No exceptions.
- No Tobacco Policy: The use of Tobacco is prohibited.
- Financial Responsibility: Must have the ability to pay Post dues and purchase duty uniform.

- Department Affiliation: Any person affiliated with a Fire Department in any capacity, whether paid or volunteer, will not be a member of the Post.
Application Selection Process
Applicants whom are successful in all of the below processes shall have their name placed upon an "eligibility list" from which the Post may draw from to fill vacant positions. This list will be valid for a 1 year period, but may be extended as circumstances dictate.Applications can be obtained and submitted at:
